حَدَّثَنَا سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْجَبَّارِ الْبَغْدَادِىُّ حَدَّثَنَاَ عُمَرُ بْنُ حَفْصِ بْنِ غِيَاثٍ حَدَّثَنَا أَبِى عَنِ الأَعْمَشِ عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ قَالَ تُوُفِّىَ رَجُلٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِهِ فَقَالَ يَعْنِى رَجُلٌ أَبْشِرْ بِالْجَنَّةِ. فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم أَوَلاَ تَدْرِى فَلَعَلَّهُ تَكَلَّمَ فِيمَا لاَ يَعْنِيهِ أَوْ بَخِلَ بِمَا لاَ يَنْقُصُهُ. قَالَ هَذَا حَدِيثٌ غَرِيبٌ.
One of the companions (1) of Anas Ibn-Mālik died, so a man said, "Glad tidings of Paradise!" The Messenger of God, peace and blessings of God be upon him, retorted, 'Yet, you do not know. He may have spoken about what did not concern him, or refused to give when his provisions were not lacking.'" حَدَّثَنَا سُوَيْدُ بْنُ نَصْرٍ أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ الْمُبَارَكِ عَنْ مُجَالِدٍ عَنْ قَيْسِ بْنِ أَبِى حَازِمٍ عَنِ الْمُسْتَوْرِدِ بْنِ شَدَّادٍ قَالَ كُنْتُ مَعَ الرَّكْبِ الَّذِينَ وَقَفُوا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم عَلَى السَّخْلَةِ الْمَيِّتَةِ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم أَتَرَوْنَ هَذِهِ هَانَتْ عَلَى أَهْلِهَا حِينَ أَلْقَوْهَا. قَالُوا مِنْ هَوَانِهَا أَلْقَوْهَا يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ. قَالَ فَالدُّنْيَا أَهْوَنُ عَلَى اللَّهِ مِنْ هَذِهِ عَلَى أَهْلِهَا. وَفِى الْبَابِ عَنْ جَابِرٍ وَابْنِ عُمَرَ. قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى حَدِيثُا لْمُسْتَوْرِدِ حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ.
al-Mustawrid Ibn-Shaddād related that he was part of a caravan which was traveling with the Messenger of God, peace and blessings of God be upon him, when they stopped at the carcass of a dead lamb. The Messenger of God, peace and blessings of God be upon him, said, "Do you see this? It had become contemptible in the sight of its owners when they discarded it." The Companions retorked, "It was because of its contemptibility to them that they discarded it, Messenger of God," the Companions explained.
